Aņo Nuevo State Reserve is mostly famous for the numerous elephant seals dwelling in the rocky coastline, specially during the first months of the year.
But it also offers some less-crowded beaches, beaten by cold winds from the Pacific.
Only the seagulls and sanderlings seem to find the place to their taste.
Apart from the expected sand verbena, California thrift and stonecrop, you may be surprised to find a few strawberries growing in the dunes.
