In summer, the hills of Sunol Regional Wilderness loose their flamboyant green for a golden tan that looks more appropriate to the season.
Ground squirrels, like cows and calves, spend their afternoons lying quietly on the ground, trying to spare their breath.
The turkey vultures are the only inhabitants seemingly unaware of the heavy warmth of the air. They soar around the dark fractal curves of the oaks.
In the evening, the California quails get out in the open — sometimes the whole family noisily crosses the trail.
